MINUTES
CRITICAL PLANNING COMMITTEE SUB-COMMITTEE II
BAY/POND BEACHES
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
Present: Ed Sedlock, Russ French, Bob Smith, Joe Mistretta, Joan Sullivan
The minutes of the August 14th meeting were approved.
Joan showed photos taken at the August 14th site visit illustrating some of the problems found at the bay and pond beaches.
Ed reported that the badly rotted stairs at Thumpertown, had been repaired at least temporarily and that it had taken the workers the entire day to complete the job.
The Committee determined that a presentation of our findings and recommendations would be made before the Selectmen preferably early in December at the Wednesday afternoon work section. Joan will contact the Town Administrator to reserve a time period.
The scattered and inconsistent signage is a problem. Bob will work on an appropriate sign with symbols to be placed on each beach.
Russ French will contact Sheila on the need for coordination of signs by various departments. He will also discuss with her the beach expenses including the recent additional costs at Nauset Light Beach for Eastham tax payer parking.
Other items discussed were 1) the need for information to accompany the mailed beach application forms, 2) the improvement of the quality of sand deposits, 3) possibly banning smoking at the beaches, 3) creating additional parking spots at South Sunken Meadow beach, 4) the poison ivy situation, 5) the memorial benches at First Encounter nearly buried, 6) having a few benches at all the beaches ( there is one at First Encounter) and 7) increasing beach space at Campground by using some of the front parking spots.
The next meeting of the Committee will be on Tuesday, October 16,
at 10 am at the Town Hall.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 am.
Respectfully submitted,
Joan Sullivan
